Hello, this is TORA.

Have you ever met a non-Japanese person who has asked you “How do you become a Ninja?”
I wonder if it’s possible to become a Ninja…

This may be because there is a Ninja fad going on, but apparently, February 22nd in Japan is known as “Nin-nin no hi” or “Nin-nin Day” (“Nin-nin” is what Ninjas say when listening and nodding along to somebody who is talking).
In Okinawa Prefecture, the Ninja performance group “Ryukyuu Ninja” will perform Ninja shows on this day.

When I was in elementary school I was obsessed with the anime ”Ninja Hattori-kun”.
I actually still watch it from time to time.
There’s so many movies and special effects films that feature Ninjas nowadays.

I assume that in order to acquire Ninjutsu (Ninja Art) you must train in various arts such as swordplay and martial arts, and study pharmaceutical sciences. Physically you must have superhuman reflexes, arm strength and leg strength, as well as strong perseverance, just like the members of special forces and spies in action movies these days.

So, I know all of the heroes from spy action / science fiction movies such as James Bond, Ethan from the Mission Impossible series, and Jason Bourne from the “Bourne” series, which I am a big fan of.
Japanese Ninjas in movies and historical dramas are fictional in many ways but I feel that they possess more intellect and physical ability than the international spies that I have mentioned above.

Please read this article first to further your understanding about Ninjas.

What are Ninjas?

Ninjas are individuals or groups who worked for feudal lords from the Asuka Period to the Edo Period in Japan, whose jobs included espionage, subversive acts, plotting, infiltration, and assassination.
Ninjas are widely known across the globe.

To become a Ninja

1) Train in Ninjutsu (Ninja arts)

This is pretty basic, but to be a Ninja you must speak like a Ninja.
Refer to yourself as “Sessha” and end every sentence with “gozaru”.
Say “nin-nin” while listening and nodding along to someone who is talking to you.

2)Become an apprentice

Train under a Ninja apprentice so that you can pass the ”Ninja Test”.
Why not train under a descendant of Hattori Hanzo?

3)Get a job.

Get a full-time job at one of the following Ninja-related establishments:

  • Koga-ryu Ninjutsu Yashiki
  • Ninja Museum of Igaryu
  • Koka Ninja Village
  • Mt. Handosan
  • Chigachishijyo

Summary

Do you want to become a Ninja?
Why not do some job training?

Who knows, there may be a government-approved undercover job available for you! You may get a chance to become a government official!
I hope this article has deepened your understanding of Ninjas.
If you really want to become Ninja, you better get to work.
Why not start today.
